Do you know where it is?

There are a lot of challenges you face with when you run human subject studies. One of them deals with making the actual research tasks more fun.

Here’s a gamified way of asking people about what they know about a location:

The authors of this paper present Google StreetView images on a website. People then need to put a pin where they think this picture was taken. When they have done so, they will be awarded a score: Their score is the better the least they are off and the quicker they were. People are also shown how far they are off.

Why all this matter for my research on the impact familiarity has on how people find their way from A to B? Well, the better you know the location of places along a route the more familiar you are with that route…
